Picking Up the Pieces - part 4

I had to cut my play time short last chapter, though I was nearly through, as it was bedtime on a work night - though with 5 jobs, almost every night is a work night; c'est la vie, the life I choose.

Those rabbit killers, Greta and Mike were at it again and I fear another bump in the future, which would lose the challenge as it is limited to 2 children total. The risky whoohoo mod makes the lullaby silent, so I never know for sure, and I just indulge Greta when she wants something, including whoohoo.

Big sister Carrie has been sweet with Jackson, offering him a bottle and playing peek-a-boo. The challenge rules don't state if I can control the children, or how old the children have to be at the time the challenge ends (could be grown, in fact - that needs rewriting for speficity) so I figured I can control the kids, but didn't do anything to control them until childhood.

Doesn't he look genuinely surprised? Oh, object permanence, you get toddlers every time!

Carrie: Mom said she burned mac'n'cheese? It looks so easy. I'll make a blueberry muffin and start learning about the oven and be a better cook than her!

Carrie is athletic, so she and Greta made a hockey snowman. I don't know if this is a controllable thing as I'm new to Seasons, so I just let them do whatever and get surprised.

Admittedly, I love how they play pretend with the costume box.

Carrie is eager to have her own room, but there is no money right now. Jackson keeps waking her up in their shared bedroom. All money is going to the challenge rules at this time. Still need 10k more.

The kids' room updated.

Carrie and Mike make an ordinary snowman. Boring, but she still had fun.

Greta goes to the consignment shop (to sell garden products and any jewels she finds) and met Edgar Morgloudin! They seemed to have a lot in common.

For some reason, the guy who used to work in the shop doesn't work there anymore and this guy will never let her use the Buy/Sell option. She can click it, but nothing happens, only since this guy took over. She's having to sell everything to the "trash" in the inventory for a lower cost. I hate this guy. She even tried to be friends, but it didn't help.

Carrie built an igloo all by herself.
Carrie: This? It was easy!

Greta: Let me just set my sandwich on the floor here, instead of on this table to recognize the flutterings of life going on yet again.

That leaves us just 2 more days to finish the challenge until we're lost. Greta goes to the Prism workshop. She's maxed the artisan levels and can make a Menus de Vilo bust for 30,000. She does and we win!
I really like this family and am going to keep laying them. Future posts will be under the name Greta. I'd love to see Mike alien pregnant.

Picking Up the Pieces - Part 3

Raising a toddler and working really takes it out of Greta. She's always exhausted. Mike is doing his best to care for Carrie and keep the house need, plus make most of the meals. New parents have a rough learning curve.

Raindrops on the hot tub. Just thought it looked cool.

Greta throws up kind of often, so this may mean nothing. She's very sensitive.

Nope, not this time.
Greta: Mike, I want to tell you, I'm pregnant! It know it's soon, but, well, this is what we get for all that whoohoo.
Mike: Oh, good. I'm so excited to have another baby, Gretzky! I'm just glad I wasn't fattening you up with all those waffles. [Greta runs off crying.] What? Oh, I didn't mean it. Greta... Hormones.

Mike: Greta, look, you're my world. You and Carrie and whoever this is going be in your womb, here. I want to be honest with you.

Mike: I just can't stand that you think I'd ever hurt you, that I'd ever give up the life we've built. Nothing is more important to me then you and my kids. That's why I wanted to protect you. Let me just tell you.

Mike: The woman on the beach, the day of our wedding, that's my sister, Ariel. I don't know how she found out where I moved to as we don't keep in touch, but maybe someone in the family told her the city and she happened upon us. I don't know. She's an addict and a user. Ariel came up and congratulated me on our wedding. I was wary. I couldn't make a scene. I just asked her what she wanted.

Mike: She said she wanted to be a part of my life again, maybe stay with us while she got settled. I told her absolutely not and she had to leave town. She's charming, my sister. She butters me up, makes me laugh, reminds me of when we were kids. Then she asks me for money and disappears for months or years at a time. It's her pattern. I didn't want you to know. I didn't want you to refuse to be with me if my family was so messed up. I realize now that I should have just told you before we even got married. I should have laid the cards out on the table, but who knows if Ariel will show up again for another few years or what?

Mike: I'm sorry I tried to hide it from you. And you made us this amazing house. I was supposed to pay for the honeymoon and had to cancel it all because my sister said she needed my help. I can't so no to her. She gets herself in these awful situations. But, I need to be a united front with you, for us, for our family. I was wrong not to tell you sooner and I hope you can forgive me.

Greta: Mike, why are you telling me all of this now?
Mike: Last night, some weirdos came to the door. They were looking for Ariel. I told them I don't know where she is and I haven't seen her since our wedding day a couple of years ago. They seemed satisfied and left without complaint. I am just glad it was me who answered as you'd have been caught off guard. They didn't seem dangerous and I'm not worried for us. I just want to come clean to you. I hate that you wondered terrible things about me all this time and I'd never hurt you. I used to wonder about staying married, but those days are gone. Our beautiful daughter and the life we have, I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Greta: And the baby.
Mike: And the baby, of course. I couldn't be happier. Can you forgive me?
Greta: Of course. Now let's seal it with a kiss and put it behind us.
Mike: With you, just a kiss? [Oh, it was more than a kiss.]

Greta: Carrie, you're going to be a big sister! You're going to have a little brother or sister soon! Want to feel the baby in Mommy's tummy?
Carrie: Bay-bee.

Greta works on the talking skill while Mike does some laundry.

Despite growing another person, Greta is doing her best to parent Carrie with a little fun claw action.

All this skill building while pregnant wears her out. Greta really is fragile. She throws up a lot, even while not pregnant, and pregnancy is tough on her.

Greta: Mike, let's take a shower together, you know.
Mike: Greta, I don't think we can. I mean, logistically...

Time for Greta to go to the hospital. Place your bets now. What'll she have?

Jackson the larvae. Where's my cool printed larvae pods? Bah. Mike loves taking care of the kids. He does a great job, even with Greta's gone all day. This particular day was rough though, so Greta had to look in on a few of Carrie's needs after work and then grab a nap. She woke up Mike to tend to Jackson, which was easy.

 Addition

When you forget to put a roof on your addition, your toddler crawls through a snow drift to her potty. Don't let your toddler crawl through a snow drift to her potty; roof your addition.

This is life when you have 2 little ones.

Last of the skills.

Wait. What's this? Those...those aren't waffles. Call the police. Someone's snatched Mike's body! He's in a pod somewhere. He made pancakes. Police!

Mistletoe. Just what they need. Bunnies can't keep their hands off one another.

Ugh, they're so sappy!

Mike: Gretzky, how about one more?
Greta: One more, what, sweetheart?
Mike: One more baby. Let's go practice.
Greta: Let me get back on my feet. Besides not now.
[Plus, you'd ruin the challenge!]

See you later, alligator!

Ugh, not again! Greta's getting a great many handiness skill points. Things in this house break more often than other houses, I'm certain.

Jackson no longer a larvae

Greta called a babysitter over to watch Carrie while she worked with Jackson on his skills. There seemed to be nothing to do when she got there and she kept shrugging confusedly.

Mike: Greta, wanna put Jackson down for a nap and...reconnect in the other room?
Greta: Mike! The babysitter is here?

Mike: Think she feels left out? Okay, she can come, too.
Greta: Mike! [Socks him in the arm.]
Mike: I was just kidding!

Potty is done, now for walking.

Solved the laundry-all-over-the-house problem by converting the old nursery into a laundry room and moving the laundry basket in there. I didn't realize it was trapped in the corner by their dresser because they were able to put laundry in, just not get laundry out. Sigh, pathing issues.

Last skill, finished! I don't consider a "raise the kid" level complete unless the toddler has all 3 skills done. Both of mine did. Having a problem with the money as I shot myself in the foot with that artisan thing and the money's been slow in coming. I did sell everything in the inventory and am still 20k short of winning the challenge. I like this family and think I'll keep playing them for fun.
In the next part, barring anything unforseen, we'll see if I either make enough money to win or end up losing. Also, if she gets pregnant again, I'll lose. And these bunny killers...you never know.

Picking Up the Pieces - part 2

Greta has begun having those baby dreams, suggesting she's ready to move forward with family life, but the relationship is still in the red a little bit.

Who has two thumbs and loves waffles? This guy! Mike has waffles as his favorite food and keeps serving them. Greta's never eaten anything but waffles at this time.

A little flirting, a little chatting, things are improving.

How to Repair Trust, by Simon Sim. Yes, I'm doing all that...

Neat sims floss, apparently. I've never seen this before.

Greta: Mike, let's have a date. Let's get things back to where they belong.
Mike: Great idea, Greta. Let's hit that local bistro.

They changed into formal clothes, which I thought was cute. The place became packed right after they arrived.

But something didn't agree with Greta. She seems to have a delicate digestive system. After this, everyone had thought bubbles about her. How embarrassing.

Greta: This date is getting my heart pumping!

Mike: Not just yours!
Townie: You know it's raining, right? Here, I've got you lovebirds covered.

Greta: Maybe it's time we started on the pitter patter of training wheels?
Mike: Let's go home.

The date went well. They are just barely in the green, so they couldn't whoohoo, but they made out and went to sleep.

The next night, Mike was in the hot tub when Greta got home from her workshop.
Greta: Hi.
Mike: Hello, yourself. Get over here, Gretsky. Let me rub those knots out.

Greta: Smooth talker.

Let's just say the at-home date went well. Really well.

They love their house.

The next day, Greta is sick. Does this mean...? I use the "risky whoohoo" mod, so there is no lullaby, but always a chance of baby with whoohoo, so maybe. But then again, she has thrown up several times for no reason, so she could just be ill. I do think Mike had "germy" roll up the other day, too. Could be the flu.

 Nope, that day she popped!
Greta: Mike, I'm pregnant!
Mike: That's terrific, honey! Sorry about your outfit.

Mike: I'm so excited to be a dad! I bet this will be the icing on patching things up between us, too. Oh, a little Gretsky and me. This is amazing news.

They resume their readings, Mike on relationships and Greta on pregnancy.

Pregnancy makes her horny! Greta kept rolling up the want to whoohoo and make out and kiss. Did you know that the 3rd day, a pregnant sim can't use the hot tub?

I haven't had a pregnant sim in forever. I missed their cute bumps and waddles.

She wanted to read another pregnancy book. I gave her a few days off of the art studio, as if it were a real job.

All out of waffles in the fridge, I made her make mac'n'cheese. She set it on fire. Ugh. Please don't die! She put the fire out.

Greta: Ah, salad; that I can handle!

Bump!

Meet Carrie. Here's our little family, home safe from the hospital.

Mike is always picking her up, playing with her, she really never gets to sleep for long as he's all over her. Smitten dad.

Mike: Carrie, I'm your Daddy. Your Mommy is sleeping, but I've got you, sweetheart.

He even blows raspberries on her belly. I'd never seen this before either. She's smiling, so cute.

Greta's back to work. I have to have a little faith that Mike can take care of Carrie while Greta's gone since he's not playable. A problem I ran into is that "artisan" is not able to be registered at City Hall as a job. This puts a damper on my game play as she's the breadwinner and appears to be unemployed. Also, the stuff she makes (jewelry, glass sculptures, perfumes) are not sellable at the consignment shop. That's the 2nd knot in this rope. I can sell the items directly, but haven't done so yet. A bit frustrating. I could get her a traditional job at this point, but it seems fruitless.
